"Ban Terminator Technology – Free Seeds Instead of Dead Crops"
Terminatortechnologie ächten!
A strong coalition of groups in Germany has launched a campaign to Ban Terminator. The groups have established the website in German www.freie-saat.de and makes the following demands:
We are calling on the German representatives at the 8th conference of member states of the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP8) that will meet in March in Brazil,
· to speak up for the preservation and the strengthening of the de facto moratorium on the commercial use and field testing of Terminator technology
and
· to work towards a world-wide ban, unlimited in time, within the framework of the convention.
We are furthermore calling on the German Parliament and Government, to
· prohibit the patenting, registration, licensing or any other form of acknowledgement of intellectual property rights in context with this technology,
· make a ban on the Terminator Technology part of the German law on genetic engineering,
· not provide research funding by the public sector for projects that could promote Terminator Technology and its development,
and
· most importantly, speak up within the European Community, at all levels, for the implementation of the above-mentioned demands.
The organisations who are signatories below see the development and accreditation of Terminator Technology as a threat to food security world wide. This technology presents a form of acquisition of vital resources that has to be outlawed!
